Who doesn’t love a great snack? But, who wants to spend a lot of time putting a lot of ingredients together to get one? Here are 10 yummy snacks that have lots of flavour, but not a lot of ingredients! (some of them aren’t all that healthy however its nice to have a cheat meal now and then, its good for the soul!)
Apples and Peanut Butter – A simple, and classic snack. A nice crisp apple and your favorite peanut butter is all you need. You can dress it up a little with things like chocolate chips, nuts or granola. For something different, choose a nut butter made with something other than peanuts like cashew nut butter or almond butter. Or indulge your chocolate craving with chocolate-hazelnut spread.
Kale Chips – An easy and healthy snack, seasoned kale chips are simple to make and big on taste. Make your own by seasoning kale leaves with your choice of herbs and spices and bake for 15 to 25 minutes at 250 degrees. Experiment with flavours by using different kinds of oils or balsamic vinegar.
Yogurt Parfait – A creamy and sweet treat, a yogurt parfait can really hit the spot when you’re looking for something to eat. Just layer yogurt with fruit and/or granola and chill. It’s a great way to combine flavors and textures for a satisfying snack.
Fancy Popcorn – Whether you choose microwavable or air-popped popcorn, you are starting with a great snack. Popcorn is easy to dress up for any occasion. Flavours like pepper and chili powder can bring the heat. Drizzle with caramel or chocolate for something sweet. Add some pretzels, marshmallows or nuts to add more texture as well taste.
Banana Pops – Bananas are a great snack that children and adults can enjoy. Add a little extra something by putting bananas on popsicle sticks and covering them with peanut butter or chocolate. Roll them in nuts, granola, coconut, chocolate chips, and so much more. Let your imagination run wild and create your own favorite! Freeze them for an extra fun treat.
Buttery Cinnamon Nuts – You can either choose mixed nuts or a specific kind, pecans work really well. After roasting the nuts in the oven for 10-15 minutes, melt clarified butter in a saucepan large enough to hold the nuts. Sauté them for 5 minutes, then toss with the cinnamon, a little sugar, and a pinch of salt and stir to coat. Let cool before serving and refrigerate for later use. Make a savory version with chili powder or other spices.
Chocolate Dipped Fruit – Easy and delicious! Pick your a favorite fruit like mandarin oranges, apples, bananas or pineapple and dip them in melted dark chocolate – or go a little crazy and do them all! For a little something extra you can dust them with powdered sugar or sea salt.
Roasted Chickpeas – Chickpeas become crunchy when roasted, so they’re a satisfying alternative to potato chips. There are some really great recipes on the internet, but the basics are tossing chickpeas in a coating of olive oil and your favorite spices. Roast them at 400 degrees. After 15 minutes shake the tray to toss them and roast for another 10-15 minutes or until they’re crunchy.
Smoothies – A perfect snack on a hot day, a smoothie doesn’t have to be complicated to be tasty. Ice, your favorite fruit, yogurt and a blender are all you really need to make a great snack in no time.
Fruit Kabab with Dipping Sauce – An easy snack without a lot of ingredients. Thread some of your favorite fruit onto a skewer. Make a dipping sauce by combining a cup of sour cream, 2 tablespoons of brown sugar, 2 tablespoons of lime juice and a sprinkle of cinnamon.
Tasty snacks don’t need to take a lot of ingredients, and many of these snacks can be made ahead so you can enjoy them when you’re hungry.
